Since Friday I have been constipated. Fianlly had a very uncomfortable bm Sunday night.
Any suggestions on what to take or should I just add fruits and Vegs to my diet. I've had D for 2 years--not sure what to do about C
Thanks again for all your help

I get constipated often due to nerve damage in spine (MS related) so I have a fairly high fibre diet which includes phsyllium husk and lots of fruit and veg. pain killers are bad news for me. Its an ongoing battle with bladder and bowel. I have just been dx with chronic cystitis as well, my bladder doesnt empty properly due to the nerve damage so catheters are now a household word in our house, not much fun but have to do it! Its amazing what you can get used to!

Forgot to add I am sure the C is due to prednisone

I suffer with more constipation than d. I use stool softners nightly in order to keep things softer and easier to pass. Another thing I found that works is Senekot. It is a natural laxative and works well for "me" with out causing the cramping etc some others can. Good luck!

Went to the pharmacy today and bought miralax. It was recommended by the pharmacist and by someone's doctor on this board. I did call my GI but his office has not yet gotten back to me.
Miralax came in travel packets which I thought would be convenient for our trip starting Wednesday.

HI there: I find that the Prednsone really constipates me and causes pain. Discovered that one packet of VSL3 in the morning works wonders to loosen things up and let me have a relatively normal day. Works in about 1-2 hours.

I agree with Nanners about Senokot. After my surgery in October, I had severe constipation from the narcotics and after trying stool softeners and other things, someone recommended Senokot and it worked well.
Take care!

Check with your doc about the Senokot. I was just in the hosp with a partial obstruction. I'm on 35 mg Pred and constipated too. I used to take Senokot and it is very helpful, but my doc wants me to stop it because he thinks it will aggravate the inflammation. I am using Miralax. It works but not as well, but it is considered less irritating and safer when Crohn's is flaring.

I also have problems with C and find that Milk of Magnesia is very helpful and very mild. I also use Miralax and Dulcolax other times.
I switch around because I'm afraid that if I use the same one all the time, it won't work as well. So far so good with the results.
